The latest hybrid drive technology in the RUTHMANN-STEIGER® world

Emission-free, virtually silent, flexible and very powerful - these are the hallmarks of RUTHMANN’s Hybrid STEIGER®, the TB 270 Hybrid

You will be able to experience it live for the first time at the bauma in April in Munich. With this STEIGER® version and the fully electric STEIGER® AMPERO TBR 250 E RUTHMANN is responding to the growing market demand for truck-mounted aerial work platforms with alternative (emission-free) drive types.

Almost silent as well as CO2 and emission-free the TB 270 Hybrid can be operated at the place of application. In this way, it is possible to carry out work assignments in inner cities, pedestrian zones or residential areas in a time uncritical way, e.g. early in the morning or evening, without disturbing passers-by and local residents. Furthermore, emission-free operations in closed halls represent no problem at all.

In addition to the features mentioned above, the hybrid version also scores highly with the TB 270’s unchanged good performance characteristics, i.e. a working height of 27 m, a lateral reach of 16.4 m and a top basket load capacity of 230 kg. All of which makes the TB 270 Hybrid the perfect environmentally-friendly tool for a wide range of manual applications, such as painting and building cleaning, installation or tree cutting works.

RUTHMANN's BLUELIFT spider lifts have been well-known for many years for their ability to complete vertical access projects without emissions. In the truck-mounted aerial work platforms domain proven BLUELIFT hybrid technology is being used in the ECOLINE 160 and 180 Hybrid models for the first time, and with great success. Therefore, it was only natural to also convert the STEIGER® series to the hybrid drive technology.

And this is how it works: An additional lithium battery system is installed alongside the chassis combustion engine. Optionally, the control technology can ensure an automatic switchover between the battery and the combustion engine, without any loss in performance or speed while in the battery mode.

In order to compensate for the weight of the battery pack, the TB 270 Hybrid is installed on a 3.5 t Mercedes Sprinter chassis with GRP-RA suspension (= leaf springs made of glass fibre reinforced plastic) and a 45-litre tank. In addition, the passenger seat has been removed.

Should the customer require a chassis with a greater vehicle load capacity or a passenger seat, it is of course possible to use the 5 ton class Mercedes Sprinter chassis for the installation.

Whether RUTHMANN's new power models are mounted on a 3.5 t chassis or one from the 5 ton class as an HV 5 version, RUTHMANN offers a true hybrid drive for its STEIGER® models. Optionally, the latter can be charged while driving and powered via a cable connection or using the battery’s capacity during the STEIGER®’s operation.

Charging times depend on the chassis and are either two hours (3.5 t) or four hours (HV5). Depending on the driving behaviour, the following ranges and capacities result for the TB 270 Hybrid:

Up to 200 km can be covered with the 45-litre tank on a 3.5 t chassis and up to 350 km with the 70-litre tank on the HV5. The battery’s capacity is then sufficient for 1.5 hours of continuous operation for the 3.5 t models and three hours for the HV5 versions.

The conservation of resources, the lowering of pollution levels, these are values the RUTHMANN company has championed for many years. To achieve its targets the company has even created a separate logo with the motto: “orange is the new green”. It signals to other market players that the company combines products that simultaneously feature the well-known RUTHMANN performance, i.e. the orange, and aspects of environmental friendliness, i.e. the green.

Environmentally-conscious actions and a renewed pioneering spirit are also being demonstrated by aerial work platform rental company Gerken, which has secured the TB 270 Hybrid prototype for its rental fleet. Last year, the Düsseldorf rental company had already taken on the first hybrid-powered ECOLINE 180. And the world's first truck-mounted aerial work platform with a fully electric drive, the RUTHMANN STEIGER® AMPERO TBR 250 E, will also be available to rent from them following its world premiere at the bauma in Gerken.

Amongst other things, RUTHMANN is sending its target group of aerial work platform rental companies, municipal enterprises or utility companies the message that retrofitting a hybrid drive is an option for many of the RUTHMANN aerial work platforms which already exist in their rental pool.
