The well-known Spanish equipment rental company – AP Lift – recently took delivery of a RUTHMANN HEIGHT performance-STEIGER ® T 630 and a 3.5 t RUTHMANN STEIGER ® TB 270+. The deal was arranged by AMCO Machinery & Consulting – RUTHMANN’s new sales and service partner in Spain.
Owner und General Manager of AP Lift, Alberto Piñeiro, picked up the models at the RUTHMANN factory in Gescher, Germany. We asked him why he chose these particular models and what type of assignments await these professional truck-mounted aerial work platforms in Spain.
Editorial Staff:
Mr. Piñeiro, can you please tell us why you decided to purchase two RUTHMANN STEIGER ® models at the same time?
Alberto Piñeiro:
RUTHMANN is a market-leading manufacturer of truck-mounted aerial work platforms, known for their high-performance capabilities and customer value. In Spain, the STEIGER ® name is synonymous with innovative technology and the highest quality and safety standards. In every work platform category, RUTHMANN stands for German quality at its finest.
RUTHMANN has exactly what my rental customers and I have been looking for.
Editorial Staff:
For which target group/industry did you order the HEIGHT performance-STEIGER ® T 630 and what are the advantages of this model?
Alberto Piñeiro:
All of our rental customers will benefit from this model. However, our new T 630 will mostly be used for repair and maintenance assignments on wind turbines, carried out by our own employees. We have a separate department called "PiñeiroWIND" that focuses solely on the wind farm sector.
When working on wind turbines, operators require truck-mounted aerial work platforms that provide maximum stability, agility, and performance capabilities. The T 630 satisfies these specifications brilliantly. Because of its amazing performance data, all sides of the wind turbine can easily be reached from one operating position. The greater reach capacity provided by the long upper boom is extremely beneficial when working up high where every centimetre counts.
The T 630 also has an impressive 600 kg basket load capacity. Tools and material can be lifted to the desired object without any degree of difficulty. The inner surface area of the basket is a generous 3.7 sq. metres – enough space for one or more workers.
The STEIGER ® T 630 has a total weight of less than 32,000 kg. Its overall length is a compact 11.9 m. This means that it can be driven on all roads throughout Europe without special permits or authorizations.
This is a major advantage for us, especially in the summer months when we see an increased demand for rental equipment from various countries across Europe. With our new T 630 in our rental lineup, we are now able to satisfy this growing demand.
Editorial Staff:
What do you think the future holds for wind turbines?
Alberto Piñeiro:
The importance of wind power as a renewable source of energy is rising steadily and the number of wind turbines in operation has also increased substantially over the years. As a result, the demand for professional truck-mounted aerial work platforms has risen sharply. They are simply the perfect choice for continuous care and maintenance tasks on wind turbines.
In the past, cranes with suspended personnel baskets were often used for these types of assignments. This practice is now prohibited with compliance closely monitored and strictly enforced.
Editorial Staff:
Which target group/industry are you focusing on with the TB 270+ and what are the advantages of this model?
Alberto Piñeiro:
With the TB 270+, the unparalleled all-rounder in the 3.5 t chassis category, we appeal to many different types of customers. This includes municipalities, gardeners, landscapers as well as cleaning and maintenance companies. With its 27 m working height and 16.4 m lateral reach, the TB 270+ is the most capable truck-mounted aerial work platform on a 3.5 t chassis. With the T 270+, we can carry out assignments that had previously only been possible with machines in the 7.49 t category. The TB 270+ offers a cost-effective price/performance ratio, maximum performance capabilities, expanded usage (can be driven by anyone with a class B driver’s licence) resulting in higher turnover and earnings.
Editorial Staff:
How would you rate the service and advice provided by RUTHMANN’s Spanish sales and service partner??
Alberto Piñeiro:
AMCO General Manager, Bert Wiegel and his team deserve top marks. With AMCO, RUTHMANN has a reliable, courteous, and well-organized business partner. RUTHMANN also deserves a lot of credit. The models we ordered were ready on time and in excellent condition both inside and out. The additional technical, maintenance, and safety training we received during the hand over was second to none.

Do you think there is still room for improvement in the aerial work platform industry?
Alberto Piñeiro:
It is fun working with the highly-motivated RUTHMANN team and I know that I am also in good hands with AMCO.
One thing Spanish equipment rental companies would like to see however, is a more comprehensive, nationwide after-sales service in the powered access industry. This would minimize downtime and boost overall efficiency.
Editorial Staff:
Could you please tell us about the future goals and objectives of your company?
Alberto Piñeiro:
Thanks to our top-notch rental fleet, AP Lift is already quite well-known in Spain. We would however like to strengthen and further expand our presence. Working with reliable business partners such as RUTHMANN – that provide us with innovative, powerful, and technically advanced machinery – and well organized dealers like AMCO, will help us achieve this goal.
Our head office is in Pontevedra, on the Atlantic coast, in northwestern Spain. To better serve the entire country, we are planning to open a branch office in the Madrid area. I am not able to reveal all of the specifics of this plan at this time.
Editorial Staff:
Mr. Piñeiro, we would like to thank you for the informative interview. Have a good trip back to Spain with your two new STEIGER ® additions.
AP Lift, with its head office in Pontevedra (Galicia region) on the Atlantic coast, has over 20 employees, is an IPAF partner, and authorized Hycleaner dealer.
